Introduction

Make environmental intelligence part of every engineering decision.

LIBRA GREEN integrates Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data into the engineering development process, connecting product structures, material and manufacturing specifications with tracked environmental impacts.

From individual Part Numbers to the complete assembly, it provides the data visibility needed to evaluate environmental performance, identify targeted improvement opportunities, and support engineering decisions aimed at reducing environmental footprints.

FROM PRODUCT DATA TO ENVIRONMENTAL INTELLIGENCE.

What is LIBRA GREEN?

Environmental intelligence, connected to your product.

LIBRA GREEN is LIBRA's environmental assessment capability, designed to integrate Life Cycle Assessment into the engineering development process.

It builds a structured Life Cycle Inventory from engineering product data, connecting product structures, Part Numbers, masses, materials and manufacturing information with relevant environmental datasets.

Through its integrated LCA workflow, LIBRA GREEN supports Cradle-to-Gate assessments and links environmental impacts directly to the engineering product hierarchy.

This allows engineering teams to explore results across environmental impact categories, from the complete product down to individual Part Numbers, while maintaining the connection between environmental performance and the underlying engineering data.

How LIBRA GREEN Works

From engineering data to a traceable life cycle inventory.

LIBRA GREEN builds a structured Life Cycle Inventory from engineering product data, enriching Part Numbers with material, substance, supplier and manufacturing information.

It supports data completeness checks, connects materials to environmental datasets and links the resulting impacts to the product hierarchy — making environmental assessments traceable from individual components to the complete product.

LIBRA GREEN capabilities by lifecycle stage

Process Step 01: The product inventory.

Connect engineering data to the Life Cycle Inventory.

LIBRA GREEN imports Engineering BOMs, Manufacturing BOMs and other product structures, organising them into one or more Standard Functional Structures (SFS).

Each Part Number is connected to its quantities, mass and available material information, creating a structured foundation for the Life Cycle Inventory.

LIBRA GREEN Capabilities
  • Import Engineering BOMs, Manufacturing BOMs and other product structures
  • Organise product data into one or more Standard Functional Structures (SFS)
  • Connect Part Numbers with quantities, masses and material information

A solid data foundation for reliable insights.

Engineering product data is the starting point for environmental assessment.

Process Step 02: Enrich & validate the Life Cycle Inventory.

Turn product data into a reliable environmental inventory.

LIBRA GREEN enriches each Part Number with material information, substance composition, supplier details, recycled content and transportation data.

LIBRA GREEN verifies material-data coverage against the total product mass, helping engineering teams identify missing or inconsistent information before environmental assessment.

LIBRA GREEN Capabilities
  • Import or enter material and substance composition for each Part Number
  • Enrich material records with supplier information and recycled content
  • Connect supplier and manufacturing locations to determine transport distances
  • Verify material-data coverage against the total product mass
  • Identify missing or inconsistent inventory information

Complete the data. Understand the gaps.

A traceable and sufficiently complete inventory provides the foundation for meaningful environmental assessment within the defined assessment scope.

Process Step 03: Map materials & calculate environmental impacts

Connect engineering materials to environmental data through LCA expertise.

Environmental assessment requires more than connecting a material to a dataset. Materials and substance recipes must be mapped to appropriate Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data considering the product, industrial sector, assessment scope and applicable LCA methodology.

LIBRA GREEN combines engineering intelligence with specialist LCA expertise. Through the collaboration between AMET and LCE – Life Cycle Engineering, material mapping, environmental datasets and the methodological setup of the assessment are defined and validated by LCA specialists.

Once this expert-led configuration is established, LIBRA GREEN applies it consistently across the product structure, calculates environmental impacts and maintains the connection between each result and the corresponding Part Number.

LIBRA GREEN Capabilities
  • Integrate expert-validated material and LCI dataset mappings
  • Apply the configured LCA methodology consistently across the product structure
  • Calculate environmental impacts at Part Number, assembly and product level
  • Maintain traceability from environmental results to engineering data
  • Support drill-down analysis to identify the main environmental contributors

Process Step 04: Calculate the product's environmental footprint.

From Part Number impacts to the complete product assessment.

LIBRA GREEN aggregates the environmental impacts associated with individual Part Numbers across the engineering product structure, from assemblies and subsystems to the complete product.

The assessment is then complemented with available manufacturing-site environmental data, such as energy and water consumption, to account for the production contribution within the Cradle-to-Gate boundary. This contribution remains distinct at product level and is not automatically allocated to individual Part Numbers.

The resulting assessment provides a consolidated view of the product's environmental impacts across relevant impact categories, while preserving the ability to explore the contribution of individual components.

LIBRA GREEN Capabilities
  • Aggregate impacts from Part Numbers to complete products
  • Integrate plant-level data into the environmental assessment
  • Calculate Cradle-to-Gate footprint across relevant impact categories
  • Separate raw material impacts from manufacturing-site contributions
  • Drill down results through the product structure to Part Numbers

From individual components to the complete environmental picture.

LIBRA GREEN connects detailed component-level results with the overall product assessment, supporting informed engineering decisions.

Assessment Scope & Methodology

Transparent environmental assessment.

LIBRA GREEN supports Cradle-to-Gate environmental assessments based on the defined product data, Life Cycle Inventory datasets, system boundaries, assumptions and LCA methodology.

Product Use and End of Life are currently outside the assessment scope.

Assessment results depend on the availability and quality of the underlying engineering and environmental data, the selected datasets and the methodological assumptions defined for the assessment.

Engineering for Reduced Environmental Footprints

Design with impact in mind.

Empower every engineer to design products with environmental impacts in mind.

LIBRA GREEN integrates environmental data assessment into the earliest stages of product development, including early-stage concept designs built on the engineering data and assumptions available at that phase.

By making environmental insights accessible across engineering teams, it enables specialists to explore how alternative materials, components, and product architectures may affect different environmental impact categories — while designs are still evolving.

Lifecycle data analysis becomes part of everyday engineering decisions: assess alternatives early, evaluate their trade-offs, and progressively refine the environmental assessment as product data matures.
